Sustainable Technology and Energy for Project

S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation founder Jaroslav Vanek, 1930-2017.

This website of the “Sustainable Technology and Energy Project” is the continuation of the S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation

(Sustainable Technology and Energy for Vital Economic Needs) which functioned from 1986 to 2018.  With the

passing of Jaroslav Vanek on November 15, 2017, the board of the S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation took the decision in June 2018

to discontinue the activities of the Foundation.  The purpose of the S.T.E.P. Project is to continue to provide the small-scale

renewable energy design content to the appropriate technology community.

Transition from S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation to Sustainable Technology and Energy Project (S.T.E.P.):

The S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation at its 2018 annual meeting took the decision to discontinue activities.  For the foreseeable future, we will continue to maintain this web page as a service to the appropriate technology community under the S.T.E.P. Project name.

Description of the S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation

The S.T.E.V.E.N. Foundation was incorporated in New York in 1986 by Prof. Jaroslav
Vanek of Cornell University, and has non-profit status under provision 501(c)(3) of United
States
tax law. The word "S.T.E.V.E.N." stands for Solar Technology and Energy for Vital
Economic Needs. In exploring the low-cost exploitation of solar energy, it is the desire of the
Foundation to make available to all people, but especially the poor and disadvantaged,
inexpensive alternate sources of energy for development and economic viability. Furthermore, it
is the intention that these technologies be used through cooperative entities, either family groups
or worker/community cooperatives which can both produce and operate them.
